Year 9 Workplace Visit Day: Exploring Careers

This week, all Year 9 pupils took part in a workplace visit day. Thanks to friends and family, pupils had the chance to explore a wide range of workplaces and sectors, from helping with an advertising shoot to spending the day at law firms, banks, and architecture offices, as well as shadowing librarians, care workers, and designers, to name a few.

Exploring Careers

This week, all Year 9 pupils took part in a workplace visit day. Thanks to friends and family, pupils had the chance to explore a wide range of workplaces and sectors, from helping with an advertising shoot to spending the day at law firms, banks, and architecture offices, as well as shadowing librarians, care workers, and designers, to name a few.

Additionally, some pupils worked at the Prep School, and a small group had the opportunity to visit the GDST Head Office in Victoria. Supported by Karen Kimura, Careers and Employability Manager for the GDST, students took the opportunity to quiz members of the team there, including a new recruit who worked in estates and a seasoned PR executive who kindly took the time to share details about their day-to-day job, as well as what they loved and disliked about it.

The group were given a marketing challenge to share what they loved about Sydenham High and what the school could or should promote about itself. Apparently, the minibus drivers are our unsung heroes, and the school really should have its own dog!

After lunch in Victoria, a tour of the office, and sharing their ideas with Helen Overy from the Communications and Marketing team, we took the obligatory photograph from the roof terrace and spotted London landmarks.

A huge thank you to the GDST Head Office team, the Prep staff, and all the parents, family members, and friends who supported our Year 9 pupils for the day.
