Regeneration in action
On a surprisingly sunny late September day, Year 9 Geographers took their learning outside for a fieldwork trip to Nine Elms to investigate how successful urban regeneration has been.
The fieldwork focused on four key sites, including the redeveloped Battersea Power Station and Embassy Gardens, assessing how high-investment development transforms urban environments.
To evaluate these changes, pupils conducted Environmental Quality Surveys and gathered public opinion through questionnaires. Mood mapping allowed us to record how different spaces felt, comparing the bustling retail hubs to surrounding residential areas. Pupils also completed detailed field sketches, capturing architectural design and land use.
A highlight of the trip was viewing Embassy Gardens’ famous floating Sky Pool, a clear visual indicator of the affluence and gentrification defining modern Nine Elms.
The day provided valuable primary data which pupils will now present, analyse and draw conclusions from in their upcoming geography lessons.
