The Great Sydenham Bake Off 2025 brought colour, creativity and a wonderful sense of community to Longton Hall on Monday. Pupils arrived with an array of spectacular cakes in House colours, featuring everything from dragons and bees to the Cookie Monster. The hall was soon filled with the smell of freshly baked treats and the buzz of eager spectators admiring the displays.
House Captains and staff first selected their winning entries before the final round of judging, where Mrs O’Neill and colleagues faced the tough task of choosing an overall winner. After much deliberation, Megan’s beautifully decorated chocolate cake — praised for both its creativity and taste — earned her the overall Star Baker title, securing victory for Gurney in a very close competition. Congratulations also go to Hannah (Shirreff), Pearl (Stanley), and Hattie H and Olive W (Grey) for their outstanding bakes.
The event culminated in a joyful whole-school viewing, with pupils marvelling at the imagination and skill of their peers. It was also a delight to welcome Year 5 pupils from the Prep School, whose entries stood proudly alongside the Senior School cakes — a wonderful addition we hope will continue in future years.
This year’s Bake Off was not just about cakes, but about collaboration, fun and house spirit — the perfect way to launch our House events calendar.
