Sports Day 2026

The energy was electric this week, as we took to our newly refurbished grounds for our annual Sports Day

The energy was electric this week, as we took to our newly refurbished grounds for our annual Sports Day. Despite a grey start, the sun broke through just in time for a brilliant day of competition, teamwork, and House spirit.

We kicked off the morning with a  House warm-up, where pupils from Grey, Gurney, Shirreff, and Stanley showed incredible community spirit, setting the perfect tone for an exciting day ahead.

Events began with a flurry of heats, in which pupils truly gave their all, championing participation and teamwork. After lunch, spectators watched on in anticipation during a thrilling afternoon of finals, before coming together our last energy filled event of the day: the relay races.

Pupils competed fiercely for house points while loudly cheering each other on, regardless of house, form, or year group. The atmosphere was the epitome of the supportive community we foster at Sydenham & Dulwich Girls. Of course, no Sports Day would be complete without an ice cream, and pupils and staff celebrated their hard work by cooling down with a well-deserved treat over lunch.

There were many memorable moments throughout the day, such as the Community Fun Run, where staff and pupils joined forces for a jog around the track, raising vital funds for the Bone Cancer Research Trust. The party spirit continued over lunch as the field transformed into a dance floor, with pupils across all year groups dancing together to classics, from the Macarena to the Cha Cha Slide, and even to Gangnam Style! While a key highlight of the day was celebrating our many talented athletes who smashed long-standing school records, making this a truly historic Sports Day.

With the final points tallied up, Gurney came out on top as the overall champions, proudly taking home the coveted House Cup!

Congratulations to everyone who took part and earned valuable points for their houses, and a huge thank you to all the parents who came along to cheer our athletes on.
