LitSoc
At this week’s Literature Society, Mia and Arianna in Year 12 delivered an insightful and thought-provoking presentation on Feminist Literature to an audience of KS4 and KS5 students and staff.
The session explored the evolution of the genre, starting with Mary Wollstonecraft’s 1792 pioneering work, A Vindication of the Rights of Woman, and moving through to contemporary literature. Mia and Arianna guided LitSoc members through a diverse range of texts, including Virginia Woolf’s A Room of One’s Own, Simone de Beauvoir’s The Second Sex as well as modern classics such as Bernardine Evaristo’s Girl, Woman, Other and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s We Should All Be Feminists.
Ms Lau, Deputy Head of English and LitSoc Lead, commented: ‘Mia and Arianna did a fantastic job navigating complex themes of identity, society and the female experience. The session sparked a fruitful discussion about the role these books play in our world today.”
The session highlighted the power of literature to critique social structures and foster empathy, further solidifying LitSoc’s role in encouraging intellectual curiosity and meaningful debate within the school community.
