U9 Cricket vs Bromley High School
On Wednesday, our U9s took to the pitch for their first cricket match of the season, marking a particularly special milestone for our courageous Year 3s, many of whom were representing Sydenham & Dulwich Girls for the very first time in a team setting. The sense of excitement on the bus set the tone for what proved to be a brilliant afternoon of sport.
On the first yellow pitch, the Year 4 team delivered a fantastic performance, demonstrating great tactical awareness by playing consistently in their pairs to secure a well-earned 10-run victory. It was a superb collective effort, with individual honors going to Ariadne, named Batting Player of the Match for her excellent contact and powerful strikes, and Connie, who was selected as Bowler of the Match for her impressive strength and straight-arm technique.
Meanwhile, on the pink pitch, the Year 4s engaged in an exciting and hard-fought contest. The team’s movement in the field was exceptional, particularly in how they started to back each other up to prevent boundaries. Ariana was awarded Batter of the Match for her consistent technique, while Margot took home Bowler of the Match for her fantastic line and focus.
Our final team featured a blend of Year 3 and Year 4 pupils, and it was wonderful to see the older girls mentoring and supporting their younger peers so effectively. This collaborative spirit led them to a decisive 263–241 victory. Gilda earned Bowler of the Match for her improved accuracy, while Alivia was named Batter of the Match for her sharp focus and consistent ball striking.
What an incredible way to kick off the cricket season for these pupils! We are immensely proud of the sportsmanship and skill shown by every player, and we look forward to seeing these young athletes continue to flourish throughout the rest of the term. Well done to all!
