Junior Sports Report: 2 October 2026

A week of first games, wins and learnings in football and netball.

U11 Football vs Rosemead

On Monday afternoon, our U11 footballers travelled to Rosemead for an engaging set of fixtures.

It was fantastic to see several players representing the school for the very first time in football, joining our 15-player squad which was divided into two balanced, mixed-ability teams. This gave every girl valuable match time and an opportunity to develop her game across a pair of competitive 20-minute matches against Rosemead’s A team.

Our first team played out an entertaining 0-0 draw in a tight contest. Defence was the highlight of the match, anchored by two fantastic goalkeeping performances: Florence commanded her box brilliantly in the first half with sharp communication and decisive rushing off her line, whilst Georgie pulled off a series of brilliant saves in the second half. Although the outfield players constructed some bright attacking moves, they just couldn’t find the decisive touch. Cece was deservedly awarded Opposition Player of the Match for her tireless energy and box-to-box presence from central midfield.

Our second team faced a tough battle, ultimately falling to a 3-0 defeat, but the scoreline didn’t reflect the quality of their performance. In fact, they played some of our best football of the afternoon, particularly in a vibrant second half where Sadie and Zina created numerous goalscoring opportunities with their direct, energetic runs. Maya earned Opposition Player of the Match honours for a magnificent display in central midfield, working relentlessly to connect defence and attack throughout.

Well done to all the girls involved for showing great teamwork, spirit, and sportsmanship throughout the afternoon!

U9 Netball vs Streatham & Clapham High School

Year 4 had an exciting start to their netball season in their very first fixture representing Sydenham & Dulwich Girls and against Streatham & Clapham High School. For the girls, this was a thrilling new experience, and every player worked remarkably hard while learning a great deal on the court.

Across all three teams, the players demonstrated fantastic resilience, communicated effectively and listened closely to coaching feedback as the games progressed. It was a closely fought contest from start to finish, with the overall result narrowly decided by just a single goal.

A special mention goes to Saskia, who excelled in attack by consistently finding strong positions in the circle to shoot. Individual Players of the Match were also celebrated across each team: Taylor was named Player of the Match for the Yellow team for her tight marking and constant pressure on her opponent; Marnie earned the honor for the Green team thanks to her fantastic reading of the game and repeated interceptions; and Alivia took Player of the Match for the Blue team with her quick dodging and energetic drives into space. It was a wonderful first outing for Year 4, full of teamwork, progress, and brilliant sportsmanship.

U11 Netball vs Bromley High School

It was a brilliant week of netball for our U11 squads, with so many pupils having the opportunity to take to the court in an afternoon filled with enthusiasm, teamwork, and great sportsmanship against Bromley High School.

The A Team fought hard in an incredibly close and competitive match, narrowly missing out on a win with a tight 6–4 scoreline. The players displayed fantastic resilience throughout, with Ella earning Player of the Match at Goal Shooter for her composure and relentless work rate.

The B Team put on a sensational performance, securing a brilliant 16–1 victory. The squad showed superb versatility, with players adapting seamlessly across different positions. Player of the Match went to Maya M for her outstanding shooting consistency.

In another well-contested fixture, the C Team earned a fantastic 4–2 win thanks to sharp court movement and disciplined play. Evie S was named Player of the Match for her impressive tracking and strong, decisive passing.

Rounding off a wonderful afternoon, the D Team delivered a great performance to take a deserved 3–1 victory. Olivia was awarded Player of the Match for consistently finding great space and distributing the ball with brilliant accuracy.

A huge well done to every single pupil who represented the school this week—your hard work, enthusiasm, and team spirit made everyone very proud!
