Junior Sports Report: 15 May 2026

Our girls put their skills to the test in a GDST Cricket Tournament and a local schools Athletics Event.

U11 GDST Cricket Tournament

Our U11 cricket team travelled to Northampton High School to take part in the GDST Cricket Tournament. Although temperatures were low throughout the day, thankfully the rain stayed away and conditions remained dry for an excellent day of cricket, where the team played four matches against other GDST schools.

We made the perfect start to the tournament in our opening game against Norwich, with Georgia taking a wicket with the very first ball of the day. Despite a strong performance, the team narrowly lost by 10 runs. In the second match against Bromley, the girls bounced back brilliantly with a comfortable 19-run victory.

The third game proved to be one of the closest contests of the day, as the team narrowly lost to eventual tournament winners Croydon by just 2 runs in a match that could easily have gone either way. The final group game saw another excellent performance, with the girls defeating Nottingham by 5 runs.

At the end of the group stage, the team finished tied on points with both Croydon and Bromley in second place. Unfortunately, runs scored meant we finished fourth in the group overall, sending us into the Plate Competition.

The girls responded brilliantly in the quarter-final, producing one of their best performances of the day to beat Blackheath by 35 runs. Ariana also hit our first 6 of the tournament in an excellent innings.

In the semi-final, we faced a very strong Oxford side, who proved to be the strongest team we encountered all day, containing several outstanding cricketers. Despite a determined effort, we were defeated by 24 runs.

There was some brilliant cricket played by the team throughout the day, with all the girls contributing superbly. A special mention must go to Sienna, who not only impressed with both bat and ball, but also captained the team brilliantly, demonstrating excellent cricket knowledge and leadership in the field throughout the tournament.

Well done to Amelie, Ariana, Freja, Georgia, Jess, Margaux, Orla C and Sienna for representing the school so positively and competing with such determination and spirit throughout the day.

Y5&6 Athletics at JAGS

Earlier this week, 20 pupils from Years 5 and 6 took part in an exciting athletics competition alongside pupils from James Allen’s Girls’ School and Thomas’s Clapham. It was a fantastic afternoon of competition, with all pupils showing great enthusiasm, determination and team spirit throughout the event.

Every pupil competed in four events: the 100m sprint, long jump, javelin and shot putt. With all competitors taking part in the same age category, our Year 5 pupils were competing directly against Year 6 athletes and should be highly commended for the way they rose to the challenge.

There were some excellent individual performances across the afternoon. A special mention goes to Arabella in Year 5, who finished 4th overall in the long jump, missing out on a medal by just a few centimetres against older Year 6 competitors.

We were delighted to celebrate several medal-winning performances during the competition. Margaux achieved 2nd place in the shot putt, while Ariana won 1st place in the javelin. Jess and Ariana also shared 3rd place in the 100m sprint after two excellent performances on the track.

Athlete of the Day deservedly went to Blake, who produced an outstanding all-round performance by winning 1st place in the shot putt, long jump and 100m sprint — a remarkable display of athletic ability across multiple disciplines.

Well done to all pupils involved for representing the school so positively and competing with such energy and determination throughout the afternoon.
