Today, students attended the GDST LEAD Launch Event at the London School of Economics, marking the start of an exciting programme designed to develop leadership, entrepreneurship, communication and problem-solving skills. Drawing together students from across GDST schools, the event provided a unique opportunity to learn from inspiring professionals and collaborate with peers.
The day began with a keynote speech and Q&A session from entrepreneur Shiromi, founder of Kin, a platform connecting people with expert mentors. Students heard about her unconventional career journey from aspiring STEM student to English graduate and ultimately founder of a DeepTech start-up, gaining valuable insights into resilience, adaptability and innovation.
Students then took part in a carousel of interactive workshops. The Hoopla Improv Workshop encouraged confidence, creativity and effective communication through improvisation activities. The Negotiation Skills 101 session explored how to communicate persuasively, manage disagreements and build positive relationships through empathy and understanding. Meanwhile, the LSE Founder Challenge introduced students to social enterprise, design thinking and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, challenging them to work alongside entrepreneurs to solve real-world problems.
Throughout the day, students demonstrated enthusiasm, teamwork and a willingness to step outside their comfort zones. The event not only provided practical leadership skills but also inspired students to think creatively about the impact they can have in their communities and future careers.
We look forward to seeing how our students apply the ideas, confidence and connections gained from today’s launch event throughout their GDST LEAD journey
