For almost 140 years our school has been dedicated to excellence in girls’ education and providing opportunities for young women. As we prepare to open our new state-of-the-art entrance and innovation space, and new Sixth Form, it is the right moment to ensure that our name reflects our individuality.
Moving from ‘High School’ to ‘Girls’ places girls’ education front and centre, signalling our mission to equip every girl with the confidence to excel in their chosen pathways and forge their own futures. We remain committed to a through-school education, inspiring curiosity from Junior to Senior to Sixth.
On a practical level, the change resolves a long-standing confusion with a nearby state school (Sydenham School) that causes many logistical issues every year.
Our pupil community has always drawn from across Sydenham, Dulwich, and the surrounding areas. There is also a historical resonance as a Dulwich High School existed within the GDST family until the 1930s. Furthermore, as you know, our girls benefit from our strong academic and enrichment partnerships with schools in Dulwich.
This term, we are proud to open the door to two major new facilities. Fairlight Innovation Space, our new entrance building, is home to creative, maker spaces and design labs that are unlike anything we have had before. Fairlight’s name honours one of our original buildings, connecting our proud heritage with ambition in one space. Alongside it, The Foundry opens in our refurbished and extended former stable block as our new dedicated Sixth Form, designed for all our young women who are forging their futures within its walls.
These developments represent a significant long-term investment in your daughter’s education. They give our girls the innovation spaces and collaborative environments that will allow them to thrive.
