BioChemMedSoc visitor
Dr Philippa Guppy, an alumna of Sydenham High School (Class of 2005), joined our BioChemMedSoc virtually today to share her inspiring career journey.
Currently a palliative care doctor at the Royal London Hospital, Dr Guppy also works as a senior lecturer at St George’s University for the physician associate programme and is a trustee for Hospice Africa UK, a charity dedicated to providing palliative care and training in Africa.
Dr Guppy spoke passionately about her career path, which included volunteering with Hospice Africa in Uganda and taking the time to find the specialism that suited her best. Her determination to become a doctor— a goal she set during her time at Sydenham High— was evident throughout her talk. Students appreciated the time she took to answer their questions openly and honestly, particularly regarding life as a doctor in the NHS today, including discussions on current affairs like the bill on Assisted Dying.
